such is life

29 10 2006

WARNING: vulgarity ahead. i’m sure you’ve heard it, and will hear it again. i use it to make my point. i do not apologize for it’s usage, as it accurately represents my feelings towards the issue.

what life is, and isn’t, is defined solely by human experience.

for instance, the rich man may see life as tough, that everyone exists solely to steal his money.

the poor man may be happy that he has no trappings of wealth, and has learned to live on the small things.

the sick may be pissed that they are, and look at life downcast.

or perhaps not. see, the entire idea of life, God, and everything else is the sum of our experiences. if we happen to see miraculous healing or spontaneous speaking in different languages, we might be led to believe in the supernatural. or, if all we see is pain and suffering, we might be led to believe in no God, for we believe that no God is capable of this. what if the entire idea of God, the perception of Him on earth, is not up to him but up to us?

that raises a very large question. have we, and are we, portraying an image of God in agreement with Christ’s command to love Him and love others? perhaps so. many great missions exist to serve the poor, the weak, the infirm, using God’s great wealth to bring a little happiness to a suffering world. and then again, perhaps not. we have “preachers” using the television, internet, and good old fashioned guilt trips to boost the offerings. if you’re in doubt as to the greed of your church, be sure to ask your pastor for a budget report and a report of funds available to the church. and make sure he includes the savings account figures, as well. oh yes, churches have savings accounts. not just the special ones they use when they’re raising funds for a new building, oh no. churches have permanent savings accounts for their excesses. we are, and are not, portraying the image of Christ in how we act.

charity has given way to benevolences. we no longer give to the poor, we give to the church, and ask them to give to the poor. meanwhile, the poor are asking for benevolences and getting little assistance. the church needs that new media center worth 2,500 warm meals for the poor to stay “relevant.”

fuck relevance. you want to earn the respect of the people back, and bring in more people? actually care. support Christian and secular advances alike to lessen the suffering of the poor and defenseless. projects such as (red), organizations such as UNICEF, any way to be truly charitable. support missionaries that have specific causes in mind, and not just “conversion.” Sponsor a few doctors in the medical labs, working hard for a cure for cancer, AIDS, and every other ailment. work with a few here in the states to raise support. just be charitable. and forget this “saving the world” nonsense. people will be more convinced with one kind action than a million passionate words. take this from a jaded american.

filler post

27 10 2006

this really is just a filler post. some song lyrics for you to consider.

” You’re everything
I could want
That I could need
If I could see
You want me
Could I believe?
‘Cause You’re perfectly
All I want, all I need
If I could just feel You’re touch
Could I be free?
Why do You shine so?
Can a blind man see?
Why do You call?
Do You beckon me?
Can the dear hear the voice of love?
Would You have me come?
Can the cripple run?
Are You the one?

Chorus:
To raise me up
From this grave
Touch my tongue
And then I’ll sing
Heal my limbs
Then joyfully I’ll run to You [2x]

Outro:
‘Cause You’re everything [4x]
And I’m alive and I’ll sing
And I’m alive and I’m free [6x]“

have you ever had one of those days?

2 10 2006

i’m having one right now. it’s not something i have to describe, it’s just one of those days when everything, every damn thing, goes wrong in one way or another. i’m kinda ranting, and i really don’t have that many details to say. but when i have one of these days, i usually write to get it out of my system before i kill something. i’m just tired of discouraging comments and discouraging thoughts that keep getting mentioned to me. i’m tired of being told i can’t, i won’t, i never will. i’m tired of being something different for each person as to not offend anyone. i’m tired of being all things to all men and not ever winning anyone. i’m just tired. on days like today, you just wish you could wake from the dream and start over. i’m probably going to take a nap, because sleep is the only way away from this bullcrap. sweet dreams…cause reality stinks sometimes.

“They don’t say, ‘Hurry up.’”

1 10 2006

got that line from a joke sent to me from my alltime favorite joke site, GCFL. it was a list of things that eight-year-olds said or wrote about grandparents. there were quite a few amusing ones, such as “they can take their teeth and gums out,” but the one that struck me the hardest was my title line.

they don’t say, “hurry up.”

how cute. and how true. in this day and age, this comment doesn’t suprise me. mommy, and daddy, are always on the run, always doing something, always commuting or eating or doing work, research, gotta get that paper completed, then daddy has to work late, here’s the weekend, hurry up and go to the beach. fast food, news in thirty minutes, and meals in under an hour. the dinner table neglected, the car always filled with hungry kids wanting to go to some fast-food place. and then, there are grandparents, and other like-minded individuals, who care enough to slow down and enjoy the finer things in life.

my parents are retired, and old enough to be my grandparents. not that that’s a bad thing or an insult, just reality. they have slowed down, significantly. they take hours to have breakfast. they work at a slower pace around the house. and their lives and health, seemingly, have improved. why can’t we take some time and slow down, as they have, and experience the finer things in life? certainly, work is important. but lets also relax and enjoy some of the finer things. our health depends on it.

now, hurry up…and relax.
